Faithfulness Over (Apparent) Fruitfulness

Over at the 9Marks Blog, Mike McKinley points out the truth behind Mark Dever’s passing comment that this year had seen the most conversions ever in his tenure at Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, DC.

It’s easy to confuse the fruits of faithful evangelism with the practice of faithful evangelism. And I do certainly long to see more conversions in and through our congregation. But I am encouraged by the reminder that God is very faithful and the most fruitful days may still be in front of our congregation.

The truth is that God has been working, growing, and discipling his church through the preached Word throughout Mark’s pastorate, and now more than ever the church is seeing the fruit of conversion.
