Jumping All Over Me

I’ve been reading a lot of 43 Folders lately; and, as I reflect on my lofty goals coupled with my near-worthless work ethic, this is what I have to say to myself:

Do you honestly think that The Swell Season writes amazing songs by sitting around in an office chair surfing the internet all day? Do you think that Iron and Wine makes beautiful, musical art by typing 10 worthless emails while listening to nonsense and reading Wikipedia? Please.

What’s wrong with you isn’t that you don’t know how it’s done. You’ve done it before. That’s not the problem. Here it is – you’ve become lazy.

So what now? Give up? Throw in the rest of your desire and take a data entry job? Wouldn’t that be easier?

Fight yourself! Fight your laziness! Take it by its ugly throat and kill it. Kill it or it will take your life and waste it. Kill it or it will suck and suck and suck until your life is completely pointless.

Jesus said if your eye or hand causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it from you. It’s better to go into the next life (and live this one, too) without that evil member – even if it feels like temporary torture – rather than life a fully wicked life here and head into forever torture in the next.
