A Demonic Joke or the Truth?

A lot of folks, I’ve noticed, say things like, “Oh, my child was just being demon-possessed last night.”  Or, “Oh, she’s acting demon-possessed again.”  But isn’t the Bible a little bit – just a little – more serious about it than that?

Could it be that when our children throw themselves on the floor in a mad fit of screaming and convulsing, that’s exactly the thing that the Bible describes in places like Mark 9:14-29, Mark 7:24-30, Luke 7:31-37, and James 3:15 as demonic activity?  Could it be that these are the same things which Jesus cast out of children regularly?

Could it be that in an attempt to be funny about our child’s disobedience, we’ve forgotten sin, the Holy Spirit, and their need for a Savior?

I’m thankful for a Jesus who has already won the victory over my child’s demons and now can keep her safe forever.
