Proclaiming the Kingdom to Avoid the Cross?

Ever wondered why Paul didn’t just avoid all the persecution, trouble, and hatred over the cross? Couldn’t he have just focused on the kingdom of the new heavens and the new earth and lessen the scandal of the crucifixion?

This inclination, says Greg Gilbert, would have been and still is biblically unnecessary and methodologically man-centered. In the end, replacing the cross for the (misunderstood) kingdom takes away the heart of the gospel and eventually the gospel itself.

In the talk, Greg goes on to explain the framework of the gospel – God, man, Christ, response – from the book of Romans. For more information, he also wrote a book on this, called What is the Gospel? It’s available here.
