Vegging Out on the Computer

As I write this, I sit in a public library, facing a row of 14 computers. I can plainly see at least fourteen people glued, stuck, entrance, and enthralled by whatever is rolling down their computer screen.

Now, I’m not against computers.  Obviously.  What concerns me is the amount of sheer crap that’s coming across the screen.  And I wonder how long they’ve spent today – how long I’ve spent in my life! – doing nothing but nonsense on a computer, calling it “work” or “fun” or “social interaction” or whatever.

Let us call it what it is – vegging out on the computer – and let us stop this nonsense, once and for all.  Go ride a bike, go read a book, go play with your kids, go cook dinner with your wife.  Maybe later, when it’s time to do some actual work for an hour or two, get out the computer.  Until then, adios.
