Are You Searching the Word?

Let us learn from the example of the Bereans in Acts 17:10-11:

The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived they went into the Jewish synagogue. Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.

Now, let’s ask some questions to see if we are examining the Scriptures:

  • Are you eager to read the Bible?
  • Do you work to “dig out” the meaning written in the words, or are you content to read and move on?
  • Do you “think over” what God says, knowing that He will through it “give you understanding in everything”?
  • Can you remember the last thing you read in the Bible?

Too often, my answers to those questions are, “No.”
