There’s a Book in There

Some late night or afternoon when searching for tips on writing, Doug Wilson’s series on “Seven Basic and Brief Pointers for Writers” happened across my screen. Pastor Wilson and his team at Canon Press have turned the posts into a book, Wordsmithy: Hot Tips for the Writing Life.

. . . But here are the posts for free:

  1. Know something about the world, and by this I mean the world outside of books.
  2. Read. Read constantly. Read the kind of stuff you wish you could write. Read until your brain creaks.
  3. Read mechanical helps.
  4. Stretch before your routines.
  5. Be at peace with being lousy for a while.
  6. Learn other languages, preferably languages that are upstream from ours.
  7. Keep a commonplace book.

So, apparently, if you read all of these, there’s a book in there.
